The minutes of the July 16, 2003 meeting were reviewed and accepted.

Lengthy discussion took place concerning misunderstanding and concern amongst some parishioners pertaining to the decision about proceeding to a fundraising campaign. The Planning Committee feels it cannot effectively move ahead until the rationale for the decision is clarified.

Joe Donlin reported on the appraisal of existing property for both parishes. Joe explained that a professional appraisal is not the process of setting a selling price. Instead, it is the figure lending institutions use when setting up financing for the purchase of property. An appraisal sets a value for buildings and land and does not include furnishings, landscaping, etc.

The St. James church building and its one-half acre of land have an appraised value of $60,000.00

The St. Mary church/hall building, the rectory and the land for both have a total appraised value of $640,000.00

Joe Donlin also is coordinating the initiative to attain land in the back yard of the rectory that recently was discovered to be part of an adjoining lot.

Joe recommended that legal descriptions be established for the church and its land and for the rectory and its property. Then each can be liquidated separately if that need arises in the future.

The next Planning Committee meeting will be on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
